Dahi Vada Recipe is very tasty to eat. If you feel unwell after eating fried food on any other occasion or festival, then Dahi Vada also takes care of your stomach. Dahi Vadas can be made with Urad dal, by mixing Urad dal and moong dal or even with only Moong Dal. Today we are going to make Dahi Vada (Dahi Vada Recipe) from Urad Dal. Let’s start making Dahi Vada.
Ingredients for Dahi Vada Recipe
- 1 cup – washed urad dal
- 1 tablespoon raisins
- 1 tablespoon – Cashews (finely chopped)
- 1 pinch – asafoetida
- 1/2 tsp salt or as per taste
- Oil – for frying
- curd (whipped)
- sweet chutney
- green coriander chutney
- roasted cumin powder
- Chilli powder
- Black Salt
- Salt as Per Taste
How To Make Dahi Vada
Wash all the lentils you want to make and soak them in water for 3 to 4 hours. After this, drain the water and grind the dal slightly coarsely.
Now beat the ground dal well for 4 to 5 minutes. Then add both salt and Asafoetida(heeng) in it and keep beating it well till the dal becomes fluffy.

Fry The Vada’s
Pour oil for frying vadas in a pan and let it heat. Now take a small bowl and cover it with a clean washed cloth and hold it firmly. Apply some water on the cloth with your hand. Then take out some dal from the water with your hands and place it on a cloth.
Place one raisin and 1 to 2 pieces of cashew nuts on top of the dal and close the raisin and cashew nuts around the dal. Now press the vada with wet fingers to make it flat and round. Now gently remove it from the cloth and put it in a pan for frying.
Again wet the cloth a little and do the same process again and again and make the remaining vadas and put them in the pan to fry.
Now keep turning the vadas until they turn golden brown. Take out the well cooked vadas carefully, keep them in a plate and add the remaining vadas and keep frying them.
Make Pakoda’s
To make pakodas, first add some water to the dal and whip it. Then, make round pakodas from it and put them in the pan. Fry them like vadas till they become golden brown and after frying, take them out in a plate.
Soak The Vada’s in Water
Now, before serving the dahi vadas, soak them in hot water for 15 minutes. Now add a little salt to hot water and mix it.
After 15 minutes, the vadas will become soaked in water and become soft. Now take out each vada from the water and press it with your palm, squeeze out the remaining water and keep it in a plate.
To serve them, keep 4 to 5 vadas and pakodas in a plate and add 6 to 7 teaspoons of whipped curd and 2 teaspoons of green coriander chutney on top. Now add salt, black salt and a little roasted cumin powder as per taste. Then add 2 teaspoons of sweet chutney, again a little bit of curd and a little red chili powder. Serve Dahi-Vada Dahi Pakodas filled with sweet and sour taste as is and enjoy eating.
Suggestion
Use very little water while grinding lentils. It is even better if it grinds easily without water.
